Why Phoenix Stumps Need Grinding (Termites, Roots, and Pests)

A leftover stump isn't just an eyesore. In the Valley it's a magnet for termites and a slow-spreading root problem. Here's why we grind below grade.

Why Phoenix Stumps Need Grinding (Termites, Roots, and Pests) — storm-damaged tree inspection in Phoenix, Arizona

After a tree comes down, the stump is the last reminder. In Phoenix, leaving it in the ground is more than cosmetic — it's a real risk to your home and yard.

Termites move in fast

Decaying wood underground is exactly what subterranean termites are looking for. A stump six feet from your foundation can become a colony staging point within a year.

Roots keep growing

Many tree species — ficus, mesquite, palm — keep sending up suckers from the root system long after the trunk is gone. Grinding the stump and the major surface roots stops that for good.

How we grind

We grind 6–12 inches below grade, well past the surface roots. The chips can stay as mulch or we haul them away. The hole gets backfilled level so you can replant, lay sod, or pour a slab.
